THE REGULATORY SPECIALIST

You will be responsible for horizon scanning and identifying changes in legislation and guidance for key countries and establishing training/implementation plans for the business. You will be required to monitor changes in industry best practice and application, including attending conferences and seminars so that you can ensure appropriate standards are set for our technical and regulatory teams.

You will be responsible for having ‘top table’ discussions with our clients on regulatory issues or queries in order to support them drive their regulatory agenda. You will have a good understanding of Retailer and Manufacturers be keen to develop and maintain positive Senior client relationships. You will have the ability to risk assess decisions in order to ensure clients’ products are safe and legal without putting them at a commercial disadvantage. You will be expected to provide expert witness services as required.

Reporting to the Global Technical & Compliance Director, the Regulatory Specialist plays a critical role in our business and we are looking for a very experienced candidate who has worked in Trading Standards or Environmental Health or in a senior level regulatory or compliance role. You will need to have a deep knowledge of food legislation in the UK and globally, ideally with both food standards and food safety experience.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

We are looking for an enthusiastic, pro-active, organised candidate who is eager to learn and thrives in a fast-paced environment. You will need the ability to make decisions and prioritise whilst keeping up communications internally as well as with the client, other stakeholders and suppliers. Other key attributes will include:

  • Master’s Degree in Food Law/Regulatory Affairs or, a Degree in Food Science or in a related field coupled with experience in a regulatory affairs environment.
  • In-depth regulatory knowledge, including codes of practice, policies and guidance
  • Solid knowledge of Codex Alimentarius, FAO, WHO, WTO provisions
  • Good understanding of legal requirements, challenges and consumer trends relating to product information
  • Minimum 10 years of experience of working in a regulatory affairs role
  • Knowledge in all food categories with the following being desirable areas – non-food, pet food, baby food and supplements
  • Expert Witness experience
  • Member of Trade Association panel / working group
